A man has been made to face the law after he broke into a neighbour's house and claimed he was sleep-walking during the time.

Mark Nowak

Mark Nowak, a man who claims he doesn't remember breaking into his neighbour's home because he was sleepwalking was sentenced to five years in prison.

According to Daily Mail, the 56-year-old Nowak of North Naples, Florida, was convicted last October of breaking into his neighbour's house. Nowak contended that he had accidentally mixed medications and had no memory of the break-in or of five hours surrounding it. However the court ruled against his claims.

The Naples Daily News reports that Nowak had cut through the neighbour's lanai, jimmied a sliding door, disabled the power and an alarm. When they visited, police found typical tools of the burglary trade inside of the home.

He was convicted of burglary, theft and resisting arrest.

When cops arrived on the scene, Nowak barricaded himself in the home's laundry room, and then made a run for it, trying to escape in another neighbour's vehicle. He was however caught and made to face the law.

Nowak was sentenced to five years in prison and ten years of probation. He did not have any previous criminal record.
