It's a Shame the Nation Can Not Rescue Chibok Girls - Wole Soyinka

The admirable professor and human rights activist has shown great anger over the lackadaisical attitude of the Buhari-led Federal government in its efforts to rescue the Chibok girls.

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka is not mincing words about the missing Chibok girls, as he took out time to blast the Federal Government. He called the nonchalant attitude of President Muhammadu Buhari towards the rescue of over 200 missing Chibok girls abducted by Islamist sect, Boko Haram a big "shame".

Soyinka made his mind known on the Chibok issue after governor Rauf Aregbesola gave him a worthy honour by naming a school in Osun State after the Nobel Laureate.

He also used the opportunity to lambast the insurgent group saying the school was an “emphatic rejection of what Boko Haram insurgents preach”.

“It is a shame that the nation cannot account for over 200 girls in Chibok. I sympathize with the religious policy of governments in school; children must not be brought up feeling that religion inhibits knowledge.

“In schools, we need not distinguish our children, the fatalistic religious holiness and the holier-than-thou attitude must be reduced among our pupils,” he said.
