A Zimbabwean woman has been arrested for burning her baby while trying to punish her husband for cheating, police said.
The 27-year-old identified as Fortune Vutete of Harare, allegedly killed her young son after accidentally burning him with hot water while trying to hurt her husband because she found a video of him engaging in a sex act with his brother's wife.
Her 6-month old baby, Munesuishe Travis Mironga was sleeping on the same couch with his father, 32-year-old Owen Mironga, when his mother attempted to burn her husband with hot water but accidentally spilled the boiling water on the innocent baby.
He suffered first-degree burn wounds. The husband also suffered burns on his hand, and the two were rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment. The baby later succumbed to his injuries.
Vutete was arrested and brought before Provincial Magistrate Tendai Mahwe. She faces charges of physical abuse and culpable homicide.
She was released on $50 bail so that she can bury her son.
