The Cross River State Governor, Prof Benedict Ayade, has revealed why his state has not recorded any coronavirus cases since the virus started spreading all over the world.

Just two states - Cross River and Kogi - are yet to record any cases since the virus found its way into Nigeria.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, according to NCDC, is 6677 as of Wednesday night.

But according to Governor Ayade, as soon as his government started seeing the impact of COVID-19 pandemic globally on television, it quickly responded by locking out the state against the virus.

Ayade made the assertions during a guest appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday,

He said: “As soon as we started reading in the papers and watching on television globally the impact of this pandemic, what we did as a state was to quickly respond to it by locking out our state against the virus.

“So we actually did not lockdown, we locked out the state.”

Ayade added: “We blocked our borders immediately and commenced no mass movement.

“We started right on time, we were proactive, and we continue to sustain that.”
