El-Rufai and Hadiza

Hadiza el-Rufai, wife of Kaduna state governor, has taken to social media to share a lovely photo of the couple back in 1984.

Hadiza took to her Twitter page on Saturday to give her numerous followers a glimpse of the lovebirds while they were courting, in what appeared to be a reflection of their love journey so far.

“My (then) boyfriend and I,”
she captioned the post which has gotten a lot of users talking and garnered nearly 7,000 likes and over a thousand retweets — as of the time this report was filed.

The governor also jumped on the tweet to provide some historical details about the event they attended that day. According to him, the photo was taken in 1984 during a wedding ceremony between his wife’s sister and his friend in Kano.

“Throwback 1984: With my fiancée & lucky mascot, Hadiza Isma at Tiga Dam, Kano for the wedding picnic of her sister Fatima Isma-Abdullahi and my good friend Tijjani Mohammed Abdullahi. Alhamdulillah! How time flies!! –@elrufai @hadizel,” he wrote.

The lovebirds met in 1976 at the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Kaduna state and tied the knot in 1985.

The union has so far been blessed with three children. The duo also run the Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation (YELF) — set up in honour of the governor’s daughter who died in 2011.
