This morning, the Nigerian Senate in Abuja, kicked off the #NoToSocialMediaBill conversation on Twitter, and we captured it just for you!

We reported it here yesterday that the upper chamber of the National Assembly via a new bill on the floor which had already passed its second reading, could censor free speech on social media platforms and prosecute false statement posted by users of the social media.

Earlier this morning, the Senate kicked off the #NoToSocialMediaBill conversation on Twitter, and at the proceedings, three senators namely; Ali Ndume, Biodun Olujimi and Dino Melaye, were reported by the official handle of the Nigerian Senate, as being the key players pushing for the review of Cyber Crime Law in Nigeria,  censoring free speech.

For Dino Melaye, his grouse is with Sahara Reporters who he accused of blackmail and intimidation.

While Ali Ndume says he was once accused of financing terrorism, and Biodun Olujimi claims that falsehoods are being published online, hence she wishes for a scapegoat to be a ‘deterrent to others.
