Speaking during a courtesy call on Daily Trust newspapers’ office in Abuja, the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday assured Nigerians that the current fuel scarcity in the country would be over in a matter of days.

He said the recent approval for the payment of subsidy funds by the National Assembly had brought an end to the fuel crisis.
"We can confidently announce here today that the scarcity will end in a few days. The National Assembly has approved subsidy payment till the end of the year. As you know, we can’t spend money without approval," he said.

The minister explained that the N521 billion approved by the National Assembly would be enough to cover the fuel subsidy till the end of the year.

He said the fuel scarcity, which triggered vehicular queues at the filling stations across the country, would no longer appear again. "We can assure you that we won’t be caught in this kind of situation again," said the minister.

He also announced a plan to set up an ad-hoc committee, comprising representatives of the government, the military and the media to enhance exchange of information, especially concerning the war against terrorism.

He hinted that the 2016 budget would soon be submitted to the National Assembly, and that 'it will address the yearnings of Nigerians.'

The minister was received by Kabiru Yusuf, the Chairman/CEO of Media Trust Limited, the publishers of Daily Trust titles.
