The native of Anambra State is now on a weekly dialysis which has gulped all his savings and those of his relations.

Chukwuma Eboh

Chukwuma Eboh typifies ideals expected of a youth; diligent, ambitious and focussed. A shoe trader at Port Harcourt, Rivers State, he eked out a living from a part of the profit he realised and ploughed back the rest into the business to make it grow.

With hard work and prayers, the 33-year-old man was certain of reaching the Promised Land in no distant time.

Sadly, a kidney disease that struck him about two years ago appears to have shattered his dreams. His ambition has now given way to pains he grapples with every day as the chronic renal disease worsens.

The native of Anambra State is now on a weekly dialysis which has gulped all his savings and those of his relations.

A medical report dated September 10, 2019 and signed by a Medical Sonologist, Dr Vicky Zaccheus, of Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, stated that Chukwuma’s “kidneys show increased echogenecity of the renal cortex and medulla with complete loss of corticomedullary differentiation.”

The trader’s brother, John Eboh, told our correspondent that the family had been struggling to raise N9.3m for ailing Chukwuma to undergo kidney transplant to no avail.

He said, “He cannot move and eat well. At the moment, he has low PCV. He used to sell men shoes but since the sickness started, he couldn’t do anything again. We have spent everything we have on dialysis.

“He needs N7.3m for kidney transplant at Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre, Abuja.

“The donor is requesting N2m from us before he can donate his kidney to my brother. He gave us this month to pay him or else he will donate to another patient who is ready to pay N4m.”

The hospital in a letter tagged, “Bill Estimate for Kidney Transplantation,” have a breakdown of the N7.3m bill as follows: surgery fee, N2.8m; Anaesthesia fee, N350,000; theatre fee, N200,000; medication fee, N1.6m; immuno suppressive drugs, N550,000; bed fee, N275,000 and ICU charges, N1,525,000.

John appealed to members of the public to assist the family and save his brother from dying with his dreams.

He said donations can be made to his brother’s Union Bank account with the name: Eboh Chukwuma and account number: 0139748380.
