Tragic! 27-year-old Nigerian Footballer Slumps and Dies During a Friendly Match

A Nigerian player tragically slumped and died on the pitch on Sunday evening in the middle of a football match.

Ex-Kano Pillars player, Abdul Haruna also called Chacha, died on Sunday evening, December 6, after slumping during a football match in Kano. 
 
The 27-year-old forward was playing for Kano Professionals against a selected team in a friendly when he slumped and died before he could get medical assistance in Kano.
 
Pillars media officer, Idris Malikawa said that the death of Haruna remains a mystery to the club because the friendly match that claimed his life was between his colleagues and some overseas-based professionals held in a very small pitch in Kano.
 
He said Haruna fell down unchallenged and was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital before he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
 
 
Malikawa disclosed that the death of Haruna was a loss to both Kano State and Nigeria as a whole and that the club was still in a state of shock and disbelief over the suddenness of his demise and has asked that Allah grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.
 
"Kano Pillars are still in a state of shock regarding the cause of his death. He was one of most important players while alive and we were shocked that he would die so early like this. We pray that Allah grant his eternal rest and may his family be able to bear the loss. He will be buried on Monday morning according to Islamic rites in Kano."
 
Haruna, a former player of Heartland, would be buried on Monday morning according to Islamic rites.
 
He left behind Surayya, his wife whom he married in 2012. The union is blessed with a baby boy.
 
It was learnt that Haruna had a stint with a club in Vietnam, Song Lam Nghe An and had come back to Kano to enjoy the yuletide period with his friends and family members before the unfortunate incident.
 
May his soul rest in peace. Amen..
