President Buhari Reappoints Prof Yakubu As INEC Chairman

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reappointment of INEC chairman for a second term.


Yakubu has been reappointed as INEC Chairman by President Buhari
 
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission has been reappointed to serve a second term.
 
President Muhammadu Buhari gave his approval in a statement made public by one his aides, Femi Adesina on Tuesday.
 
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who was appointed head of INEC in 2015, has another five-year term, and is set to oversee the 2023 general election.
 
The statement reads,
 
“President Muhammadu Buhari has presented the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, for a second term in office.

“In a letter to President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, the President said in accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the nomination of Professor Mahmood Yakubu for appointment as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second and final term”.

“Prof Yakubu was first appointed by President Buhari in November 2015.”
