Shock As Gunmen Kill Policeman, Kidnap Chinese Expatriate In Ekiti

Sources said the abducted victim and the one with gunshot injury were part of the team of Chinese expatriates working on the road construction awarded by Ekiti State Governor.

A policeman has been killed, a Chinese expatriate kidnapped, and another person shot by some gunmen in Ekiti.

The unknown gunmen attacked the victims along the new Ado Ekiti–Iyin Ekiti Road under construction on Friday, according to The Nation.

Sources said the abducted victim and the one with gunshot injury were part of the team of Chinese expatriates working on the road construction awarded by Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to a Chinese company.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident, said, “It is confirmed that a kidnapping incident occurred today (Friday) about 4:30 pm along new Iyin Road where one civilian was kidnapped, one injured while one policeman was shot dead”.

Abutu said operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command “are already combing the bush for possible apprehension of the perpetrators.

“The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Tunde Mobayo, enjoins everyone to be calm and avoid any form of apprehension as the Command will do everything possible to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits,”
the police spokesperson said.
