As the investigations into the $2billion shady arms deal continues to attain new heights, reports have emerged that eminent Nigerians linked to the scandal are running to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to escape probe.

One time President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo

As President Muhammadu Buhari intensifies its anti-graft war, specifically in the $2.1bn arms purchase deal probe, some eminent Nigerians involved in the case have been reaching out to former president Olusegun Obsanjo to interfere on their behalf.

The Punch reports that, one of Obasanjo’s close assistants confirmed the development though those seeking protection with him were not named.

Meanwhile, the source said the ex-president was not probably to agree to the requests of the prominent Nigerians involved in the fraud.

The source said: ”Of course, some of the people involved in the scandal are reaching out to Baba (Obasanjo). They want soft-landing. People would always reach out to him. But we all know Obasanjo’s disposition to some people and what he thinks of them.

”Moreover, the revelations are serious. Even if only 10 per cent is true, it is still serious. Also it is important to stress that what have been revealed are the things that we know. How about other deals that we do not know? We are talking about the office of the National Security Adviser, how about what happened in other places: Education, Finance, Aviation etc?”.

Some staff of the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki had named several prominent Nigerians in politics, business, governance and the media as recipients of different “suspicious payments”.
