Meet the Female Fighters Who Formed Fierce Christian Militant Group to Take Down ISIS (Photos)

Women from a Christian militia group have formed a coalition to take down the dreaded terrorist sect, ISIS.

Syriac Christian women, members of the battalion are called the "Female Protection Forces of the Land Between the Two Rivers" fighting the Islamic State group.
 
The women from a Christian militia group are taking on ISIS as more females join the battle against the terrorist group.
 
The Female Protection Forces of the Land Between the Two Rivers' so far has around 50 members graduating from its training camp in the town of Al-Qahtaniyeh in the north east of Syria.

The "Land Between the Two Rivers” refers to the area between the Tigris and Euphrates waterways, which was historically inhabited by Syriacs and is teeming with women eager to prove their worth against ISIS.
 
The recruits follow in the footsteps of the country’s other main female force battling the jihadists - the women of the YPJ, who are the female counterpart to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units or YPG.
 
YPJ women recently told CNN that ISIS is scared of them because, "they believe that if someone from Daesh is killed by a girl, a Kurdish girl, they won't go to heaven."
 
Syriac Christians are part of eastern Christian tradition and include both Orthodox and Catholic branches. They make up around 15 percent of Syria’s 1.2 million Christians.
 
The unit have fought alongside the newly created Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition of Kurdish, Arab and Christian fighters, which recently recaptured the strategic town of Al-Hol.
 
Before the Syria conflict began in March 2011, Christians made up around five percent of the population.

The SDF has received air support from the US-led coalition fighting IS, as well as drops of American weapons.
 
Eighteen-year-old Ormia, who is part of the female fighting team, said she found battle terrifying at first.
 
She told AFP: “I was afraid of the noise of cannons firing, but the fear quickly went away.
 
“I would love to be on the front line in the fight against the terrorists.”
