A mother-in-law stunned her son's wife when she bought the woman a pregnancy test, a teddy bear as a baby and a calendar for tracking cycles as a Christmas present.

However, let's just say it hasn't gone down well.

Posting on Reddit, the woman turned to the internet for advice on dealing with her mother-in-law's subtle hint.

She wrote: "My husband and I were moving into our new house over Christmas. We asked for no gifts or cards because of our move.

"Most people respected this but not his mother."

The woman went on to reveal how her mother-in-law gave her the unique present last year.

She detailed: "Instead the gift was two pregnancy tests, a teddy bear dressed as a baby and a calendar for tracking cycles."

The anonymous woman said she discussed starting a family with her husband but the couple weren't ready during the pandemic.

She added: "This is such a useless gift and is not appreciated. I feel pressured to have babies by her so often."

The woman suggested her mother-in-law gave the presents to someone else who would use them as she didn't need them yet.

But the husband's mum was upset and insisted she kept them "just in case".

The woman continued: "His mother thinks I was disrespectful denying the gift like I did, she does not know I threw them away.

"My husband tried to get the gifts from the trash but I said no leave them there and he thinks I'm wrong and wasteful."

The woman claimed the presents were "rude" and doesn't understand how her mother-in-law couldn't see it for herself.

Since it was shared on the online forum, several Reddit users agreed it was over-jumping the line.

One said: "I think [the woman] under-reacted. I would have thrown away the tests and baby stuff in front of her to prove my point."

Another added: "Pressuring someone to make a major life choice isn't okay."

Meanwhile, one Reddit user feared the mother-in-law would tamper with her birth control.

The person wrote: "OP [original poster] needs to check their birth control or replace it after mother-in-law was at their home."

And this user joked: "It would be like you started bringing her retirement home brochures 'just in case'."
