The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned that a valid National Identification Number is now mandatory for car registration.

Nigerians without a valid National Identification Number will not be allowed to register their vehicles.

The new order was made public by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The Corps said the presentation of a valid National Identification Number (NIN) is now mandatory for all categories of vehicle registration.

This was confirmed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, an Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), in a statement last weekend in Abuja.

NAN reports that FRSC had begun compliance with this directive since December 21, 2020.

The Corps Marshal directed that all applicants for the National Driver’s Licence to present their NIN before they would be captured for any class of licence.

Kazeem said this was in full compliance with the directive of the Federal Government on the harmonisation of citizens’ data.

“The FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has also made provision of NIN mandatory for all categories of vehicle registration, effective from second quarter of 2021. This is in total compliance with the Presidential directives.

“All applicants of vehicle registration are, therefore, expected to present their NIN as a precondition for the registration of their vehicles.

“And there will be no waivers for anyone, irrespective of their status in the society,” he said.

Recall that last week, the FG cleared the air on COVID-19 vaccines.
