The government of Jigawa state has summarily dissolved an 8-year-old drug supply outfit over untamed wastage.

Jigawa State Governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar

The Jigawa State Government has dissolved the Gunduma Health System for under- performance, saying that after spending about N40 billion in the last eight years, the state's health facilities are run without drugs.

Gunduma Health System was set up by the immediate past government of Sule Lamido to procure drugs for the hospitals in the state, among other responsibilities.

The Commissioner for Information, Bala Ibrahim Mamser said yesterday shortly after the state executive council meeting in Dutse that Gunduma would be replaced with State Primary Health Care Agency.

He argued that the law which established the Gunduma Health System was not in consonance with the provision of the National Health Act which directed all the 36 states of the federation to domesticate it.

He said, "About N40 billion was spent by Gunduma and this is not commensurate with performance of the agency. There are still no drugs in the hospitals. The National Health Care Act directed all the states to domesticate it in order to reach 90 per cent of the rural areas of the country. Therefore, the state executive council approved the repealing of the law establishing the Gunduma Health System and replacing it with the State Primary Health Care Board."
