The Speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, Hon Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibani has resigned.

According to a reliable source, his resignation came after he received the 2016 appropriation bill of N307 from Governor Nyesom Wike. However, his Media aide, Mr. Onengiye Fineface has revealed that the former speaker's decision was on personal ground. The Rivers State House of Assembly now has a new Speaker and his name is Hon Adams Dabotorudima from Okrika.

It would be recalled that Hon Owaji-Ibani’s election was among those nullified by the Tribunal. The Rivers State legislative election petition tribunals Monday the 26th of  October, 2015 nullified the election of 20 out of the 32 members of the state House of Assembly.

The four tribunals, in separate judgments yesterday, upheld the petitions by candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the election. They ordered rerun in the affected constituencies.
