Shiites March to Celebrate Maulud Nabiy and Mourn in Honour of Their Killed Members (Photos)

It was a mixture of joy and sadness as many Shiite Muslims marched out in Kano to celebrate the birthday of prophet Mohammed and mourn the killing of their members by the Nigerian Army.

Hundreds of Shiites members in Kano took to the streets on Thursday to celebrate the annual birthday anniversary of the Prophet Mohammed, an event that is known as Maulud procession, SaharaReporters reports. They also used the opportunity to mourn the death of their member who recently died in a clash with the Nigerian Army.

Before commencing of the procession, the Shiites gathered at Kabara before passing through the routes of Soron Dinki, Makwarari Jakara, and Kwanar Dala, da Gwammaja and Kofar Mazuma areas in Kano metropolis. 
 
The procession was led by Mallam Sanusi Abdulkadir who used the occasion to condemn the government's action against their members. He also said it has been their practice to partake in the celebratory message of Maulud Nabiy, but this year's message is different because they are out to mourn the genocidal carnage perpetrated by the Nigerian Army against their member in Zaria.

The procession in Kano witnessed massive turnout of the sect's members. Men, women and children marched in solidarity, most dressed in black attires.
