A policeman was left for dead when a group of assassins attacked a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
A foiled attempt to allegedly assassinate a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Mr. Chikordi Dike, has claimed the life of a police escort attached to him, reports the Vanguard.
It was gathered that armed men had allegedly attempted to kill Mr. Dike who is a onetime Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
It was also gathered that the suspected assassins attacked their victims around Polo Club in GRA phase 2 and engaged the only policeman attached to Dike in a exchange of gunfire.
A senior police officer who related the incident to Vanguard disclosed the name of the late police officer as Corporal Yakubu.
The officer said Mr. Yakubu was gunned down around 11pm, Tuesday night, after he was over powered by the suspected assassins while he was trying to protect his boss.
At press time the Rivers State Police Command is yet to give an official statement on the development.
