It was pure confusion that took over the Egbeada Housing Estate, Owerri, Imo State, recently.

There was confusion in the area on Wednesday after an unidentified person stole a three-month-old baby, Precious Silas, from her mother’s bedroom.

Findings by our correspondent showed that the baby was stolen after his mother, Mrs Chidinma Silas, stepped out to get an item within the neighbourhood.

The incident, which happened around 11am, caused panic in the estate.

Chidinma, who spoke to PUNCH Metro in Owerri, said the suspect broke into her bedroom and stole child, leaving his two-year-old brother behind.

The distraught mother said, “When I looked closely, I noticed that the padlock I used to lock the door to my house had been broken. When I went inside, I discovered that my baby had been taken away. I felt someone might be playing pranks on me but as the day went by, I didn’t hear anything from anyone.

“I immediately went to the estate security to report the incident and they said no one had left the gates to the estate as of that moment.

“I have also gone to the police and the Army brigade to report. I’m dying here. I don’t know how I will survive without my child.”

The police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said he had yet to be briefed on the incident.
