ABU Staff And Her Daughter Sentenced To 7yrs Imprisonment For Faking Kidnap

The court found Akpan and her daughter guilty of criminal conspiracy, giving false information with the intent to mislead public servant and fabrication of false evidence.

ABU Staff And Her Daughter Sentenced To 7yrs Imprisonment For Faking Kidnap

A staff of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria identified as Ebong Joy Akpan and her daughter have been sentenced to six-month and seven years jail sentences respectively, for faking their abduction.

The ABU staff who conspired with her daughter to fake her kidnap, had reportedly turned around to accuse her adversaries in the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), ABU Chapter of being behind the act.

Those she accused of being behind the act included Muhammad Gimba Alfa, Mohammed Inusa, Lawal Yakubu Hunkuyi, Haruna Mohammed, Salisu Isa and Rev. J. F Bukkah; all staff of the ABU.

Following her arraignment in court, Chief Magistrate Abdullahi G. Maigamo Esq of the Chief Magistrate Court in Fada, Zaria city found Akpan and her daughter, Inyene Akpan, a final year student of the school guilty of criminal conspiracy, giving false information with intent to mislead public servant and fabrication of false evidence.

They were therefore simultaneously sentenced to six-month imprisonment with option of N25,000 fine and seven years imprisonment with option of N75,000 fine under section 97(2) and 140 as well as 158(2) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 1991.
