Nigerians have been warned by an expert that skin bleaching can cause kidney damage.

The warning was given by kidney specialist, Dr Ade Faponle.

The medical professional shared this information via his Instagram handle. Read what he wrote below,

“Be careful with that skin beaching agent. Skin-lightening (a.k.a. bleaching or whitening) agents have the potential of causing kidney damage .Skin bleaching has become a common practice particularly common particularly among dark- skinned women and men around the world.

Cosmetic agents that contain Mercury And hydroxyqunione have been commonly implicated to cause a variety of kidney diseases. It results in remission in most patients. As much as possible avoid it.

Use of skin-lightening cosmetics is a common practice that requires effective interventions that will discourage the public from continuing this potentially hazardous habit.”

Dr Ade Faponle shared this information because of the increase in the number of women who bleach and lighten their skin these days with different forms of cosmetic agents.
