Africa's Mobile Phone Subscriptions Hit 65million In 15yrs

Africa's mobile phone subscription has leaped from a 87 million as at year 2000 to 685 million in 2015, indicating a massive jump from 12.4 mobile subscriptions to 73.5 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants.

According to latest industry data, Africa has grown its mobile phone subscription from a 87 million as at year 2000 to 685 million in 2015.
 
This figure indicates a huge shift from 12.4 mobile subscriptions to 73.5 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants.
 
Similarly, individuals using the internet moved up from 17 million to 193 million in the last 15 years.
 
 
According to the latest global indicators released by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) over the past 15 years, the information and communication technology (ICT) have grown in an unprecedented way, providing huge opportunities for social and economic development.
 
Between 2000 and 2015, internet penetration leaped  almost seven-fold from 6.5 to 43 per cent of the global population and the proportion of households with internet access at home advanced from 18 per cent in 2005 to 46 per cent in 2015.
