Every winter, holidaymakers and tourists are left in awe with the minblowing ice building which is part hotel, part artistic creation.

The Hotel de Glace in Quebec, Canada was inrpied by an ice hotel in Sweden. Opening its doors to guests every winter, the incredible creation is entirely made out of snow and ice.

Daring guests flock to spend the night in rooms where even the beds are made from ice at the Hotel de Glace in Quebec, Canada. The seasonal hostelry is made out of more than 30,000 tonnes of snow – churned several times to pack it together as hard as ice.

Since it opened in 2001, the hotel's opened its frosted doors to more than a million people from around the world.

Construction of the hotel begins every December when the temperatures fall below zero – with a team of 50 people working on the hotel for around six weeks.

With its huge snow vaults, its crystalline ice sculptures its 44 rooms and suites, the Hôtel de Glace impresses by its dazzling decor. It's a mammoth effort – with 30 workers on the production team and 15 sculptors decorating the creation.

Jacques Desbois, CEO of the ice hotel, was inspired to build it after reading an article about Sweden's Ice Hotel, famously stating: "If they can do it in Sweden, we can do it here in Quebec." He packed his bags and flew to Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, to meet the creators of the structure with its touristic potential.

Jacques has been passionate about winter and the snow since he established La Piste Desboi, an ecotourism company, in 1996. Nicknamed Mr Igloo, he's been involved in a number of festivals and numerous city organisations across Canada.

Pierre L’Heureux, artistic director of the Hôtel de Glace, says this year's theme lends itself to a multitude of interpretations, said, "From frozen glaciers to rivers flowing underground, visitors are free to explore the banks and meanders of rivers that capture the imagination."

From January 4 until March 28, 2016, members of the public can enter this magical universe by visiting or lodging in this ephemeral work of art
