On Monday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal withdrew his suit challenging the withdrawal of his security details by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba which was done as a result of his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tambuwal reacted to the matter by stating that the IGP had no constitutional powers to withdraw his aides without a court order. He also stated that for as long as his colleagues do not remove as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, he remains in the position. It was reported that he approached the court to challenge the withdrawal of his aides, saying that it is a ploy of the PDP to remove him from his position.
The case resumed on Monday for the hearing only for Tambuwal’s counsel, Mr Tunji Abayomi, to bring in an application for discontinuance of the suit. The counsel to the IGP and Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, Ade Okeaya-Inneh, however opposed the application, and urged the court to dismiss the entire suit and award costs against Mr. Tambuwal.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed, in his ruling, struck out the suit accordingly.
