Bandits Killed By Joint Security Team In Niger

The combined team of Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense and vigilante members swung into action and met the bandits at Magami village, where they engaged them in a gun battle.

Some bandits were killed in Basa community of Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State.

They were killed by a combined team of Joint Security Task Force in the early hours of yesterday in a gun battle.

Though the actual figure of the casualties could not be ascertained, it was gathered that a total of 15 motorcycles were recovered from the bandits.

Other items recovered from the bandits include food items.

This was following a distress call by members of Basa community on the attack launched by the bandits.

DAILY POST gathered the combined team of Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense and Corps (NSCDC); and vigilante members swung into action and met the bandits at Magami village, where they engaged them in a gun battle.

Eyewitness account said the battle between the security team and the bandits lasted for hours, leaving many bandits dead.

“The joint security team pursued the bandits to Magami after rushing to Basa, where the distress call came from and discovered that they had fled to Magami.

“The bandits were about to cross the river when the security team arrived and engaged them in a battle that last several hours with a lot of casualties on the part of the bandits”.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.

He disclosed that the task force were acting on directive of the new Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, who during a visit to some camps declared total war against banditry, kidnapping and other criminalities in the state.
