According to a report by The PUNCH, hundreds of travellers were stranded on Warri-Benin expressway on Saturday morning as two fuel laden tankers fell and spilled their contents on the highway.

The two tankers fell as they were manoeuvring failed portions of the road, subsequently causing gridlock on the busy road.

The two tankers laden with over 33,000 litres of petrol each reportedly overturned and spilled their contents on the road.

Consequently, residents in their numbers have resorted to scooping petroleum products from the fallen tankers.

The residents, mostly women and children, were sighted trooping to the scene with buckets and kegs to scoop the product.

The PUNCH gathered that the incident was noticeable at the failed portions of the road within Koko/Ologbo junction around the boundary area of Delta and Edo states.

Witnesses said that the gridlock had led to virtually complete road close at Ologbo to Koko junction in Edo Delta State, while an alternative road that passes through the adjoining villages has not provided succour as local youths had also trooped out to mount road blocks where they were collecting unspecified toll.
