The Nigerian police have handed punishment to its officer who allegedly shot dead a truck driver over a bribe, to serve as deterrent to others.

The Kogi State Commissioner of police, Mr. Besan Gwana has confirmed the dismissal of Cpl. Onoja John from the police force, over his alleged shooting of a tanker driver along the Okene-Lokoja road, last week Thursday, the Nation reports.
The CP who said that the IGP frowns at acts such as the shooting of any Nigerian by a policeman, said the accused had undergone orderly room trial, dismissed and will soon be charged to court.
