A 20-year-old man identified as Nazifi Nura has been remanded in a correctional centre by a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano on Monday for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a five-year-old girl.
The accused, a resident of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano, is standing trial on a one-count charge of r*pe.
The Prosecution counsel, Mrs Maryam Jibrin, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 2, in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
She alleged that on a fateful day at about 11:00 a.m., the defendant lured the five-year-old girl into his room and forcefully had s3xual intercourse with her.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 283 of the Penal Code.
The defendant denied committing the offence.
The Chief Magistrate, Auwal Yusuf-Suleiman, in ruling ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter until May 26 for further mention.
