Breaking: Bukola Saraki sworn in as new Senate President

The new Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki was said to have been unanimously elected as Senate President today, June 9, 2015.

 
Senator Bukola Saraki has been sworn in as Nigeria’s Senate President.
 
The senator from Kwara State was said to have been unanimously elected today, June 9, 2015 in an election following th inauguration of legislators into the 8th National Assembly.
 
Saraki's emergence as the leader of the senate came following a crisis which erupted in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after the party endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan as its sole candidate for the position.
 
Saraki however rejected the nomination and was subsequently endorsed by the opposing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
