Following the recent spate of tanker accidents, Lagos State governor , Akinwunmi Ambode has set up a committee to look into the causes of the accidents.

Following the recent spate of tanker accidents, Lagos State  governor , Akinwunmi Ambode has set up a committee to look into the causes of the accidents.

Rising from a meeting he had had with the leaders of the petrol tanker drivers union and other stakeholders,  the governor  announced  that the committee will be chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello.

In a statement issued by the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Habib Haruna, the Committee will include the Permanent Secretaries in the Ministry of Transportation, Special Duties, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations;  Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission and the Director, Fire Service.

Other members are the representative of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners; National Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers; National Association of Road Transport Owners; Petrol Tankers Drivers and Lagos State Traffic Management Agency members.

In the course of its deliberations, the committee would amongst other functions draw up proper guidelines for ethical conduct for tanker drivers and also quickly engage the insurance industry to meet and work out appropriate policies that would protect ordinary Lagosians from havoc in future tanker accidents in the state.
