A woman's corpse has left people shocked and mystified after she was discovered lying dead beside two live monkeys in cages and a note.
These two monkeys were found beside the dead woman
A woman has been found dead in a motel room alongside two live, caged monkeys and a mysterious note.
Mirror Online reports that the body the woman identified as Linda Smith, 59, was discovered at the Budget Inn in North Port, Florida, by horrified cops. Bizarrely, two crates containing Capuchin monkeys were found just a feet away from the victim.
North Port Police Department (NPPD) said it was treating Ms Smith's death as suspicious, although there were no 'obvious signs of trauma' to the victim's body.
It added that a note was found in the room, the details of which have not yet been disclosed.
An autopsy will shortly be conducted on Ms Smith's body.
The monkeys that were discovered at the motel on Friday have been taken away by officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. They were described as being in 'good health'.
The motel where the dead woman was found
It is not clear why the creatures were in the room, nor whether they were owned by the victim, from Arcadia.
NPPD said in a statement: "A note was found in the room. There were also no obvious signs of trauma to Ms Smith’s body. The cause of death is undetermined at this point."
It added: "The medical examiner will soon conduct of full autopsy. The results will take some time."
An investigation is ongoing.
