A former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has denied media reports claiming he was planning dump the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a new political party, Premium Times reports.

According to the media reports, Mr. Shekarau, the immediate-past minister of education, was planning, alongside some other members of PDP, to form a new party as the crisis in their party “reached an irredeemable dimension”.

But a statement by the former governor’s spokesman, Ghali Sadiq, said Mr. Shekarau never mooted the idea of leaving the PDP for any party.

Mr. Shekarau said the story was nothing but “a calculated attempt to further polarize the PDP”.

The statement said further that Mr. Shekarau, who had just finished an assignment of finding lasting solutions to the party’s problems, was not planning to dump the PDP.

He added that as a member of a 15-man committee set up by the party to find solutions to the lingering problems in the party, they had so far collected over 5,000 memos and submitted their reports to the party.
