Mass Sack Looms As Wike Is Set To Overhaul Civil Service In Rivers State

Palpable fear of losing out on jobs has taken over workers in Rivers state Worker as the state government plans civil service overhaul.

The Rivers State Government has said it will purge the state civil service of ghost workers.
 
Daily Post reports that the state government came up with the plan as a way of down-sizing the work force in other to be able to ascertain the wage bill of the state.
 
State Commissioner for Information, Fred Kpakol told newsmen in Port Harcourt that salaries of civil servants were gulping the state’s entire revenue.
Kpakol said a meeting of the Heads of Ministries, parastatals and other institutions of government had been called to hold next week.
 
“We are going to have a meeting of all the MDEs and we are calling on all the Permanent Secretaries, DFAs, all accountants, and Bursars of the state tertiary institution in Rivers state to attend.
 
“The essence of the meeting is that we really want to have the nominal role of our workers, to know those on our work force, those that work for the Rivers state government.
 
“We are going to re-audit the entire system because we are paying colossal amount for salaries. So, the governor has called for the total over-haul of the civil service,” he said.
