Some street sweepers in Gombe state staged a peaceful protest on Monday, June 27, in the state's metropolis over the non-payment of their wages for three months.

The workers formerly under a private firm, INEX Cleaners, were engaged by the Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency (GOSEPA) in April 2022,  following the expiration of the firm’s contract.

Daily Trust reported that the workers protested at the main entrance of the Government House, pleading with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to direct the sanitation agency to pay them their accumulated salaries for three months.

Addressing them, the General Manager of GOSEPA, Muhammad Ahmed Kumo claimed the payment was delayed by some administrative challenges.

Kumo said efforts were being made to address the problem, adding that the workers would be paid within three days.
