The senate has mandate the Minister of Interior to step up his allocation for the daily feeding of inmates due to the insufficient nature of the initial proposition.

The sum of N130 has been budgeted for the feeding of each of the inmates in prisons across the country, the Senate heard on Tuesday according to DailyTrust.

The revelation was made when Minister of Interior, Retired General Abdulrahaman Dambazzau appeared before members of the Senate Committee on Interior for budget defence.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Bayero Usman Nafada said the budgetary allocations for the feeding of the inmates was too small.

“N200 was budgeted for the feeding of each of the inmates in our prisons. And if you remove taxes and contractors profit, only N130 will remain" he said.

In his response, Dambazzau said the ministry will look into it.
