The rarest spider in the world has been captured on camera for the first time in an industrial site.

An elusive horrid ground-weaver which is so rare that it has stopped the building of a major housing development in the past, has been captured on camera.

Only ever recorded in old limestone quarries in Plymouth in 1989 and 1995, the tiny money spider managed to prevent a development at Radford Quarry going ahead over fears it would make the species extinct.

Animal conservative website, Buglife, said that because the spider was so rare, they did not know why it had chosen Plymouth as its home but felt it could like the more temperate climate on the south coast.
