Four complete strangers have saved a woman and her baby from drowning when they jumped into the water to save them from their sinking car.
This distressing footage shows the moment a mother and baby were drowning in their car after it plunged into a canal. As the car sank deeper four men bravely through themselves into the freezing water in a bid to save them.
Accordng to Mirror Online, the men did not know each other, but their teamwork undoubtedly saved the young family from certain death.
One man, Reuben Abraham, who works in the area spotted the car go over the edge, he grabbed a hammer from the shop and rushed outside. He said he could hear the woman screaming for help.
Seconds later he was swimming towards the stricken white car as it plunged nose first into the dirty water. At the same time another man, Reinier Bosch grabbed a stone, before stripping off and jumping in.
He told Dutch newspaper RTL Neiuws that he didn't know why he picked up the stone, but he was glad he did.
After reaching the car he began smashing it against the car windows. He failed to break them, but as he was joined by three others, between them they broke through a back window.
They managed to pull the woman and child out just as the car went under. The footage shows all six then got to the edge and were dragged out of the water by a crowd who had gathered to help.
Wietse Mol told RTL Neiuws that he thought it took much longer but police told him they were back on dry land within just two minutes.
But he added: "I think every healthy young man would have jumped into the water. It is quite a natural reaction."
