The Federal Government had linked the fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to the attack.

The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu explained why he faulted the federal government,

He said that he faulted the federal government’s stand on Owo attack because there were no empirical evidence to back the claim.

The Federal Government had linked the fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to the attack.

On Tuesday, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, said security operatives had arrested the suspected killers of the church’s worshippers.

But speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Akeredolu said the Federal Government jumped into conclusion on the incident.

He said, “When I took that position I was so concerned because I felt the Federal Government came out too soon. And I said what evidence do they have? How did you come to the conclusion? The incident from its start was linked to ISWAP.

“And that is why immediately I came out and said look I don’t believe this; it is too early. You need to have concrete evidences because I believe that the normal practices of ISWAP, they own up to their act and almost immediately they take credit of the action. Nobody came out in the case of June 5 in Owo attack to say they were responsible. That was not the good thing to do. And that was why I challenged it.”
