ASUU has been on strike since February 14 2022 and over the Federal Government’s inability to fulfil its 2009 agreements.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have provided a solution to the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Recall that ASUU embarked on strike since February 14 2022 over the Federal Government’s inability to fulfil its 2009 agreements.
Since then, the striking lecturers have vowed not to return to classes until the government meets its demands and accepts the UTAS software developed by the union for payment of lecturers’ salaries.
In a communique issued at the end of its meeting on Wednesday, the NGF Chairman and Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, asked the government and ASUU to meaningfully resolve the lingering impasse in order for students to go back to school.
The Ekiti governor added that the forum has proposed to engage with both parties in a bid to end the prolonged strike.
The communique said, “On the prolonged strike by Nigerian universities, the forum encourages the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to find meaningful resolutions to the lingering impasse and has proposed to engage with both parties, just as we have done in the past, in a bid to ending the strike.”
Fayemi further revealed that the Forum discussed several other issues, ranging from resolving to increase funding for the health care sector to encouraging fiscal transparency in states.
