Drama As Benue Guards Nab Suspects Linked To Boko Haram

The security adviser said one of the suspects, Stanley, when questioned, disguised to be a personnel of the Nigerian Army, serving at Ojo, Lagos State.

 

Five suspected foreign fighters known as Amazonian fighters have been arrested by the newly established Community Volunteer Guards in Benue State.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser on Security, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba (retd.), said that the foreign fighters who were linked to Boko Haram were arrested Monday afternoon at Jato Aka roundabout near a drinking joint.

The suspects were identified as; Stanley Vincent 25 years, Ojong David, Njeke Ronado 42 years, Ngum Emmanuel and Obem Samuel 26 years.

The security adviser said one of the suspects, Stanley, when questioned, disguised to be a personnel of the Nigerian Army, serving at Ojo, Lagos State.

“That he was assigned by his boss to come and escort them to Cameroon. However, his identity card was not found on him, a development that triggered suspicion on those suspects.

The statement further read in part, “On August 22, 2022, at 3 pm, at Jato Aka Roundabout, near DZOHO Aondofa Drinking Joint, Kwande Local Government Area, the BSCVG arrested five Ambazonian Fighters suspected to have had linked with not only Boko Haram, but also Ambazonians fighting the Republic of Cameroon for years.

“Further checks revealed that chemical weapons which carries a label ‘DANGER’, Military Uniform, charms, and undisclosable number of ammunitions were found on the Amazonians who further disclosed to have stayed at Agogo Hotel, Jato Aka, for a period of six months uninterruptedly, a hotel owned by one Dooorun AGOGO.

The suspects were said to have been handed over to police in Adikpo, headquarters of Kwande local government.

The security adviser said the criminal activities of the suspects might not be unconnected to armed robbery and kidnapping incidents which had occurred in the council area in the past six months.
