A mother-of-two has tragically ended her life by committing suicide when she walked in front of a speeding train to her death.

The mother-of-two killed herself by walking into a speeding train

A mum-of-two suffering from severe post natal depression walked into the path of an oncoming train after telling staff at a mental health unit she was going to buy cigarettes.

Polly Ross died in July last year after being struck by a train in Hull in July last year.

The 32-year-old had been sectioned last February following the birth of her second child when her family became convinced she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, an acute form of depression affecting new mums.

Polly was being treated at Westlands inpatient unit in Hull before her death, but her relatives have complained that she was not receiving adequate care after developing a severe mental illness following the birth of her two children.

Her family have also questioned staff at the care facility, run by Humber Foundation Trust, over why she had been allowed to go out on her own after saying she wanted to buy cigarettes.

With an inquest due to be held into Polly's death, her family have decided to speak about the incident publicly as they struggle to piece together what happened.

Polly's aunt Emma, 45, said: "We are convinced that had Polly received better treatment, she would have made a complete recovery.

"We feel Polly's care fell well below the standards we expected and we feel we were left to struggle on when we should have been helped by the professionals."

Humber NHS Foundation Trust found itself in the spotlight after Sally Mays, 22, took her life in June 2014 when she was turned away from Miranda House in Hull by its crisis team.

Polly Ross passed away in a most tragic manner

After an eight-day inquest in October, Professor Paul Marks ruled the failure to admit Sally was neglect.

Polly's family fear "lessons learned" in the wake of Sally's death were not adequate before Polly's death, a year later.

Emma said: "We are not convinced the learnings from the death of Sally Mays were in place."

Polly was a talented linguist and ran her own translation business before developing mental health problems following the birth of her first child in 2012.

She was diagnosed with postnatal depression by a GP but her condition worsened and her family are convinced she had postpartum psychosis, an acute development of post-natal depression, after her second baby was born two years later.
