Dr Oyebanji Filani, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, has issued an advice to people in the state.

He urged people of the state to key into the Ulerawa Health Insurance Intervention programme designed to take care of pregnant women and children under age and below.

Filani also advised all health-seeking Ekiti residents to visit various public health facilities across the state, adding that government hospitals in the state were well equipped with qualified staff and modern equipment to handle their medical needs.

The commissioner spoke at Ijesa Isu in the Ikole Local Government Area on Friday during a visit to a woman, Mrs Queen Ajayi, who was delivered of a baby on the road while trying to locate a health facility.

Filani, who assured the woman that she and her baby would get necessary care in and out of the hospital, reiterated the state government’s commitment to saving lives and ensuring quality healthcare service delivery to residents in the state.

He said, “I encourage our people to key into the state’s Ulerawa Health Insurance Intervention programme designed by the Ekiti State Government to take care of this category of pregnant women and children under five years.’’

The commissioner lauded the health workers led by a nurse, Blessing Oladipupo, who assisted the woman and ensured that the woman and her baby were in a good and stable condition.

The new mum, who appreciated the state government and the health commissioner for the gesture, said that she could not afford to register for antenatal care because of her poor economic state. She noted that the situation made her unable to know her expected day of delivery.
