Custom Officers Fire Shots At Crowd, Injure Two Attempting To Stop Patrol In Jigawa

He said the incident happened on Saturday evening at Gidan Lage village when angry youths attempted to prevent the joint border patrol team from conducting the operation in the area.

 

Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, who were on border drill have caused commotion again, Daily Post reports.

The officers shot two people over their attempt to obstruct their operation in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Police Spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident to DAILY POST.

He said the incident happened on Saturday evening at Gidan Lage village when angry youths attempted to prevent the joint border patrol team from conducting the operation in the area.

He said during the operations, many bags of foreign rice were recovered.

Shiisu explained that youths from the village had gathered and attempted to stop the officers from conducting the operation.

He explained that as a result the officers fired some bullets at the protesters and two people were shot and sustained injuries.

Shiisu said police rushed to the scene of the crime and conveyed the victims to Gabasawa hospital in Kano State for medical attention.

This is coming days after the customs officers on border drill along Niger/Nigeria border caused a gas explosion that destroyed houses, and shops and injured many in Babura Local Government.
