Nigeria's opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned against labeling its new national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as 'Boko Haram sponsor'.

In a statement on Wednesday by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national auditor, Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju, the party has warned the public against labeling its new national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as 'Boko Haram Sponsor' and advised anyone or group with concrete evidence to prove same or keep quiet.

The statement said the allegation that Sheriff was romancing with Boko Haram was a plot to discredit the party before Nigerians and the international community.

The party appealed to all well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to ignore the new antics of opponents trying to spoil the party’s chances of reclaiming federal power in 2019.

"We are very much aware that some elements are jittery over PDP’s decision to pick him as its national chairman and the only way out for them is to label him as Boko Haram sponsor.

"They cannot succeed in their new plot because the government would have arrested and charged him to court as done to a serving Senator in the National Assembly during the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. That trial (of a serving senator) is still in progress," he added.

Meanwhile, Ali Modu Sheriff has vowed to chase President Muhammadu Buhari out of office in 2019.
