Nigerian pop/soul singer, Waje, in a recent interview opens up on being pregnant at 18, how she was ostracised by society and how in her wildest imagination, she never thought she'd be as popular as she is today.

Popular soul/pop singer Waje, has spoken up for the first time on how she was rejected and called names when she became pregnant at the age of 18.

She also affirmed that there is a man in her life presently, but won't give further details. "There is a man in my life and very soon, you would hear all about it", Waje simply said.

Born Aituaje Iruobe, the singer, who spoke to Punch during her album listening party in Lagos recently, said her naivety was responsible for her pregnancy at the tender age of 18.

Though her daughter, Imerald, is now 16, Waje said it wasn't easy back then when she was carrying her pregnancy if not for her mother, who helped her pull through.

"I will not lie to you, I didn't know anything. I was just a young girl. I was so naive and innocent. It wasn't easy in those days. I was laughed at. I was given a nickname. I will not tell you the nickname. But the truth is that I was scorned", she recalled.

Revealing how her mother stood by her, Waje said: "My mother is a mother. She is a true mother. I don't know what I would have done without her. She stood by me. She never discouraged me. I tapped from her strength. It was her strength that carried me on all through those years".

Looking back on the years and her humble beginnings in the industry, the Glo brand ambassador said: "If anybody had told me I would be this popular, I would have told the person to keep his prophecy. I am indeed grateful. It has been God all the way and also, I cannot take away the fact that I have worked so hard to get to where I am today. It is not yet over though. I still have more to do".
