A 16-year-old girl has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command.

The girl was arrested for allegedly pushing a 52-year-old woman, Medinat Aliu, to death in the Isolo area of Akure, the state capital.

It was gathered that on the fateful day, the deceased and the suspect had a little altercation over a matter that concerned a well in their neighborhood.

The altercation was said to have led to a mild scuffle between them, so the suspect allegedly pushed the deceased who fell and became unconscious. She later gave up the ghost.

A source said, “The issue began when the suspect was fetching water from the well in the area after she had earlier taken her bathe.

“The deceased observed that the suspect did not cover her hair and she told her to cover the hair. That was what led to the altercation. As the deceased tried to move her (suspect) away from the well, the latter pushed her and she fell down and died later.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and said investigation had commenced.

“The case has been transferred to state Criminal Investigative Department for further investigation,” the PPRO stated.

However, it was gathered that the deceased had been buried according to the Islamic rites.
