The Nasarawa State police command has banned all forms of protests in the state following the conclusion of the 2023 gubernatorial elections.

DSP Ramhan Nansel, the PPRO, in a statement on Sunday, explained that security report necessitated the move.

He also announced that all proposed protests under any guise in any part of the state were prohibited.

The persistent protest embarked upon by women believed to be supporters of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the state, necessitated the ban.

According to the statement, “The Nasarawa State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the state.”

The statement added that the police command took the decision so as to stop the breakdown of law and order and to sustain the peace currently being enjoyed in the state, stressing that the intelligent report on security can no longer sustain any form of protests in the state.

Consequently, the statement advised parents and guardians to ensure their children and wards do not violate the order, assuring that anyone caught shall be arrested and be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Members of the PDP in the State, including women and youth groups had been protesting since the announcement of the winner of the governorship election, demanding that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should review the results of the 2023 governorship election.

INEC had declared incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the poll conducted on 18th March, 2023.
