Below are excerpts from the chat;
How did you meet music? Tell us about the journey.
If anyone told me I will be doing music when I was growing up, I won’t believe that person. Way back in secondary school, I had this strong passion for rap music. I had a group, we entertained at competitions and literary days just for fun. After secondary school, I went to Delta State Petroleum Training Institute to study industrial safety believing that I’m done doing music to focus on academics.
I didn’t go to any social gathering in my first year. Second year, I discovered that I had missed music and decided to try something in my school at a show. No one knew I was an artist I just picked the microphone, freestyle and by the time I dropped it everyone was on their feet cheering. That was when I re-ignited my passion for music. So when I finished school, I returned to Lagos, met ID Cabassa, joined Coded Tunes and everything became history.
Since you’ve been doing music, what experience can you tag as the most embarrassing one in you career?
I have a whole lot of them. I don’t know where I should start from. I have even forgotten some but the one that happened way back before I became this famous was unforgettable one.
I went to record a song with a friend in Abeokuta, Ibara Housing Estate to be precise. There was a prior fracas in the area before we got there. We were arrested without doing nothing as part of the suspected disturbing group. We ended up spending about a week in the police cell for no reason. It was really traumatic. Naija police una no dey try o.
I had so many experiences but this one was just annoying. I feel the police needs some reformation. I was even trying to let them know I’m an artist, I don’t live in Abeokuta, they didn’t care to listen.
What are you working on presently in terms of collaboration and all?
I’m working on my second album. Hopefully, it will be released this year. Planning some collaboration with the heavyweights in the industry. You guys, should just watch out for a whole lot from Seriki.
Give us a tip.
Yes, I just dropped a song, Somebody, featuring Olamide and it is doing very good right now. Just watch out for more collabo. I don’t wanna let the cat out of the bag yet.
