The Kano state government, irked by the rampant spread of pornographic images in public places has taken a drastic measure to turn around the tide.

Kano State Censorship Board has warned against public display of pornographic images by traditional medicine sellers in the metropolis.

The Executive Secretary of the board, Malam Isma’il Na’abba gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano.

He said that it was within the jurisdiction of the board to check the use of vulgar words and pornographic images in public.

“We are using this opportunity to caution traditional medicine sellers, particularly those selling viagra, from displaying porn images and using vulgar words in public.

“This act had reduced tremendously when the board prosecuted and convicted some of them a year ago, but now they have started perpetrating it.

“The board has engaged and sensitised associations of traditional medicine sellers to this illegality.

“Anyone caught displaying porn images or using vulgar words openly will face the full wrath of the law,’’ he said.

Na’abba also warned that printing press engaged to print porn images would be dealt with, when caught.

According to NAN reports, traditional medicine hawkers, particularly those selling viagra in Kano metropolis, often use vulgar words and porn images to advertise their products.
